Following the celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, I ask that as we move through the rest of the year, we remember the fight. The appearance of people to stand up should not only be on the day we honor and march to celebrate the dream and actions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The work of the legislative session has really begun! This week we had an organizational meeting of the Committee on Veterans' and Military Affairs. This session, I'm proud to serve as Co-Chair along with Senator Marx. We are looking forward to working together with the members of our committee to assist our veterans and military.

We are saddened by the passing of State Representative Quentin "Q" Williams - a great friend and a truly cool brother. Q had a smile from ear to ear that lit up the room. I am grateful to God for having had the opportunity to grow, learn and become friends with the great person he was.

Happy New Year to you and your family! As the year ends I want to take a moment to reflect on the past year and be thankful for the support of the community near and far. Cheers to another great year, as I wish much happiness, health and wealth to you all.
